Time zone

In July, the time in Marrakech is Moroccan Time, which is 1 hours after Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+1).

Language

The official language of Morocco is Arabic.

Currency

The Dirham (MAD) is the official currency of Morocco. To exchange your currency for MAD, go to an exchange bureau or bank authorized to do foreign exchange.

Morocco’s area code is +212.

The area code for Marrakech is +212 (24) .

Payphones

To use public telephones, you will need to buy a phone card. All cards allow you to make local calls and international calls.

To call from public phone, insert the card and follow the instructions said by the operator.

Mobile phones

Before travelling, check whether your carrier offers roaming services in Morocco. If it does not, and you have an unlocked phone, you can buy pre-paid SIM cards, from one of the tree carriers operating in Marrakech (IAM, MEDITEL, INWI). To call, after buying the SIM card, simply purchase a recharge card.

Electricity and power outlets

There is just the 220V voltage in Morocco.

It is recommended to check the voltage in each device before plugging it into an outlet.

Climate

A hot semi-arid climate predominates at Marrakech, with mild damp winters and hot dry summers. Average temperatures range from 12 °C (54 °F) in the winter to 32–45 °C (90–113 °F) in the summer. The relatively wet winter and dry summer precipitation pattern of Marrakech mirrors precipitation patterns found in Mediterranean climates. The city receives less rain than is typically found in a Mediterranean climate, however, resulting in a semi-arid climate classification.

Attire

Dressing codes are informal in Marrakech.

Due to possible weather variability, it is recommended that you pack light clothing for warmer days, and light coats for the evening.
